The State Farm® Law Department is responsible for delivering legal services in an objective, unbiased manner and in accord with the attorneys’ ethical and professional standards. The Corporate Law Division provides legal services to State Farm and its subsidiaries. The Claim Litigation Counsel Division handles a wide range of litigation activity on behalf of State Farm insureds and/or the State Farm Insurance Companies. All Law Department employees work to provide outstanding legal services that are in the best interest of State Farm and its policyholder group. The position is classified as a hybrid role, meaning that the work arrangement calls for hours in the office and virtually. Everyone in a hybrid role are required to spend some time in the office. Work arrangements could change over time based on business needs.
Amy F. Loperfido & Associates, in-house insurance defense law office for State Farm Insurance Companies is based in Philadelphia, PA, but we also cover surrounding counties.
What you can expect:
Uses basic knowledge of discovery and litigation process in state of operation to assist attorneys with file handling
Uses basic knowledge of civil procedure to draft routine pleadings, discovery, motions, subpoenas and other documents as assigned by attorneys
Uses basic understanding of medical terminology, records, typical injuries and treatment to assist attorneys with medical records collection and review of medical records in assigned files
Reviews medical records and prepares summaries requiring basic understanding of typical injuries
Uses basic legal writing and research skills and knowledge of proper format and citations
Works under moderate supervision and with clearly defined tasks and priorities
Uses basic understanding of computer systems, Internet information resources and software applications to assist with investigation and movement of assigned files to conclusion
Uses interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, with team members, clients, claims, other firms, courts and vendors to assist with management of files
Develops skills in use of trial presentation technology to assist attorneys in trial preparation and presentation
Participates in in-house training to continue development and expand legal knowledge
Engages and responds to Excellence in Operations Management (EOM) dialogues and activities
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who:
Have experience in medical record review is required
Have 2+ years of personal injury experience is preferred
Are good with technology
Have experience in motion preparation
Have experience in discovery completion
Have strong communication skills
Have strong organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Insurance defense background
Additional Information:
Litigation or paralegal experience, paralegal degree or certificate and/or medical training is required
Maintains paralegal competency by participation in continuing education programs
Must successfully complete orientation and training program as designated by the Managing Attorney or the Law Department
Travels via commercial transportation or driving to job related activities
May work irregular hours because of workload and nature of the work
