ABOUT THE ROLE

Peloton is looking for a dynamic, business-oriented lawyer to be the primary day-to-day attorney for our music teams, and work cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Content, Finance, and Brand teams. The person in this role will report to the Head of Business Affairs, Media, and Marketing at Peloton. This position requires a thorough understanding of Peloton’s multifaceted business, including its partners, members, and competitors, in order to support the achievement of business objectives.

YOUR DAILY IMPACT AT PELOTON

Draft, markup, review, negotiate, and close a wide variety of music and media contracts, including international and domestic music licensing agreements, digital distribution agreements, and music rights administration agreements with labels, publishers, PROs, CMOs, DSPs, catalog and publishing rights aggregators, with the assistance of outside counsel where appropriate
Work closely with internal clients from assigned business units to support their objectives; provide advice on pricing, deliverables, scope, legal risks and opportunities related to their strategy; lead and collaborate on complex agreement structures, approval processes, and implementation of industry and regulatory requirements
Demonstrate a keen ability to issue spot sensitive legal and business concerns, including a strong sense of when to escalate (and not escalate) such matters to internal stakeholders
Provide advice on workflow process improvement, playbook development, client training, and updating templates to address the evolving needs of a growing organization
Develop and implement best practices and process improvements for various music initiatives within and external to Peloton
Support business in all legal matters that arise from time to time, including policy creation and enforcement, dispute resolution, and litigation support
YOU BRING TO PELOTON

Experience providing rapid, practical, business-oriented legal/commercial contract advice both internally and directly to business clients
Strong working knowledge of copyright law and related rights, including recent reforms and proposed regulations, and US, EU and international music rights schemes
Experience drafting and negotiating complex digital music and content licensing agreements with digital service providers, distributors, record labels, publishers, artists, collective management societies, aggregators and content creators across Peloton’s current locations and beyond
Familiarity drafting and negotiating apparel licenses, and general commercial contracts is a plus
Strong command of global music licensing conventions, systems, and procedures, and the ability to distill complex concepts into “plain English” for internal clients and counterparts
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an interest in working cross-functionally, and ability to collaborate with all personality types, including Creative, Marketing, Product, Finance and Engineering Teams
Superb planning and organizational skills, with ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at once, and to create and implement short and long-term strategies and goals
Able to work independently with Peloton team members throughout the U.S. and globally, meeting deadlines in the face of fast-moving initiatives
Outstanding critical thinking skills, with a bias for action and confidence to make informed decisions that have both legal and business implications
Enjoy working in a fast-paced, innovative business
Member in good standing of the NY or comparable State Bar
Base Salary: $213,300.00  to $277,300.00

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position based at our New York City headquarters. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors including individual performance, business objectives, and if the location for the job changes.
