Job Description

Position Summary

The School of Nursing is looking to hire a Research Associate for an NIH-funded asthma team developing and testing pediatric interventions for adolescents. The selected incumbent will provide research and administrative support to a school-based study.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the PI and Project Director, responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Recruiting research subjects and enrolling study participants;
Describing the study to eligible participants and obtaining study consent;
Interviewing study participants in person and/or by phone;
Proctoring intervention sessions;
Providing support with data entry;
Assisting with conducting literature searches, summarizing articles, preparing manuscripts; and
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Most of the duties will occur in-person at the office or the high schools located in the five boroughs of NYC. Targeted high schools are located throughout the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens and the incumbent must be able to travel to these schools. In the future, targeted schools may include Staten Island or areas immediately outside NYC (e.g., Yonkers).

This is a grant-funded role. Continued employment is contingent upon further funding.

Minimum Qualifications

– Requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus two years of related experience. A major or minor in health, psychology, nursing or related field will be given strong consideration.

– Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication (both written & verbal) skills.

– Ability to present information to groups of teenagers (i.e., make classroom presentations).

– Ability to work nights/weekends is required.

– Must be able to travel between Manhattan and the Bronx currently, which may likely expand to other boroughs as well as lower Westchester.

– The successful incumbent should have an established record of working with confidential data and maintaining confidentiality, privacy, and integrity in professional interactions.

Preferred Qualifications

– Experience working with children or adolescents is preferred.

– Prior research experience (course work and/or school thesis are considered acceptable research experiences)

– Bilingual (English/Spanish) is highly desirable.
