Senior Financial Accountant

RELATIONSHIP & SCOPE
The position will report to a Senior Manager of the Financial Control Unit (FCU) and will assist with completing review and analysis of Balance sheet accounts, accounting journal entries and management testing over internal control objectives executed as part of Sarbanes Oxley compliance. The position will help with qualitative and quantitative analysis of accounts, understanding and evaluation of accounting transactions and journal entries, support for various control activities performed, advisory and consulting services to all manner of control owners within Chubb, and supervisory duties regarding first level review work performed by FCU resources contracted through a third-party vendor.
ABOUT THE FCU
The FCU team is part of Corporate Finance and is responsible for design and execution of quality control testing (QC) procedures that ensure Management’s compliance with specific key controls in the areas of Underwriting, Reinsurance, Claims and Finance/Accounting, in addition to the Balance Sheet Reconciliation Quality and Reporting processes. The team’s major deliverables are the summary of test results to various constituencies including divisional and segment Chief Financial Officers, Corporate Finance leadership, and both Internal/External auditors.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Balance Sheet Reconciliation Quality & Reporting
Develop understanding of accounting processes at Chubb and provide insight and analysis on Balance Sheet accounts and transactions.
Utilize technical accounting knowledge to research areas of concern identified within reconciliation process and help account owners to improve reconciliation and reporting.
Assist in the consolidation of the global account reconciliation reporting process.
Assist in the performance of the adhoc quality reviews, serve as supervisory reviewer for work performed by testing personnel, execute quality reviews for more complex areas of the organization, including international regions that have recently implemented the global account reconciliation policy along with performing reconciliations on the BlackLine Reconciliation tool.
Account Reconciliations QC:
Supervisory responsibility for QC testing performed & reviewed by testing personnel, addressing all questions & concerns they initiate. Execute QC testing for more complex accounts / areas of the organization, ensuring compliance with company policy.
Help drive remediation of exceptions identified during QC testing, ensuring resolution of exceptions within an appropriate timeframe after the QC review.
Perform additional training to those involved in the account reconciliation process to ensure exceptions are minimized in future periods.
Instill discipline with account reconciliation preparers and owners to facilitate the discontinuation of poor practices and encourage compliance with policy. Leverage relationships & past interactions to improve outcomes.
Premium Registration QC:
Manage and take ownership of the premium revenue QC review to ensure it is a sustainable process. Balance efficiency in testing results (a high-volume and very visible control test) with effectiveness of the review process.
Assist in documenting the population and the appropriateness of the scope to ensure adequate coverage / completeness. Serve as primary liaison to both internal and external Audit regarding same, facilitating their understanding and addressing any questions.
Assess testing results and develop the extrapolation process, ensuring the logic is sound and the financial calculations are reasonable. The impact of extrapolation bears substantial risk and must be performed/reviewed carefully.
Contribute to completion of extrapolation memos on a quarterly basis; present memo results to department leadership.
Other responsibilities:
Provide ancillary testing/execution resources when needed on other QC controls
Assist in the revision of process narratives for all FCU QC processes.
Leverage relationships with control activity owners to improve their execution and to enhance FCU understanding of the work being performed by control owners.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; Accounting concentration strongly preferred
MBA and/or CPA designation a plus
2-4 years’ professional experience required; Public Accounting or Internal audit experience a plus
Insurance industry experience beneficial, but not necessary
Mastery of foundational MS applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is expected.
Experience with BlackLine software is beneficial.
